By building our cooperative upon these principles, supplemented by our politics and dedication to social and economic justice, worker-owners at tech coops are able to shape our own deeply rewarding careers in technology, unrestricted by the constraints and bitter compromises that characterize more traditional careers in the industry.

Here are some shout outs to the many impressive black women that did fantastic work in tech in 2016.

"The internet in and of itself is very male and very pale and very English. The way that we write copy, the way we code, the way we find solutions to technical problems, all ascribe to that philosophy of 'white, male and pale.'"

"We’re hoping it can change lives as well as movement and organizing work."

My hope is that we can allow folks to express the truths of their existence and be their full selves while seeking to connect with others.

"ThePLUG was birthed out of the idea that creativity and the world of tech are nuanced industries with diverse people that are too often left out of mainstream media."

The kids are screaming, and I show it in my videos while I’m recording. Who has time to reshoot? This is life.

"There’s always a lot of things when it comes to Black people in America, where it can make a young person feel like, why even try? It can create so many mental barriers for a young person. So if I can do my part in trying to break those down before they even build up, I’m gonna do that."
