Why is it that so many of us in underrepresented groups fail to create connections with one another, when we are just a few feet away from each other?

The system won’t work if there are no developers. It also won’t work if we fire the sales team or get rid of the marketing staff or can the designers. Tech is an ecosystem, and it’s much healthier when we are working cohesively within that system.

I weigh the challenges we face against the spirit of our group. We embrace our blackness, we love black identity, and we are proud to be coders.

Having more white women attendees at a conference this year than last is hardly diverse, and hardly a reason to celebrate diversity when Black people and Latinxs still make up only 5% of people in tech.

The tech industry prides itself on its rationality, and yet is filled with trite slogans that are demonstrably untrue... and further, harmful.
